Concert in the Clearing began right in my own backyard. All of the wildlife reference images for this painting came from my trail camera, which gives me a glimpse into what visits the yard both day and night. Seeing fawns is always one of the highlights of spring for me, and the camera lets me study the up-close details that I appreciate having when I paint.

In this scene, a doe and her two fawns have stepped into a woodland clearing while a Carolina wren sings from the flowers nearby. I liked the idea of turning an ordinary moment in the woods into a little concert—one that the deer seem to have stopped to hear.

This original painting has been sold, but its story continues. Concert in the Clearing was previously selected for the 2024 North Carolina Wildlife Calendar and has now been selected for the 2027 West Virginia Wildlife Calendar.

Limited-edition prints are available and only 200 are being sold. Prints are roughly 7.5" × 9.5" in a white mat with an overall size of 11" × 14". They come in a clear plastic sleeve along with a certificate of authenticity. This print fits in a standard 11" × 14" frame.
